So, my contract with my job ended on Friday. And, as of today, I was offered a stellar position with a new company. My pay goes up and with it, comes a slew of benefits that start on Day 1.
So, as far as income, I’m good to go!
As for Tucker, he spit out a P0302 code and a P0805 code yesterday. I am already looking to replace Tucker, but the process may drag out all week...so...so far we’re looking at a win/win! :)

With an engine! We replace them all the time. For lots of reasons. And yeah, we tear them down first to see if they can be fixed, rarely they can be.

Engine replacement is rare round these parts. I think it can be saved

We’ve looked into fixing them. The machine shop said these engines wouldn’t pass their own QC process when they were new. Cylinders and pistons get very badly scored, valves crack and seats get nuked, so the head gets destroyed where the seats mount, everything warps. They get hot enough to melt intake manifolds and electrical connectors. It isn’t uncommon to see pea sized chunks of valves break off and jump around in the cylinders. Or to have 1-3mm gaps at valve seats. Usually, on these, when you have one of these problems you get a handful more to go along with the original issue.
I’m not saying they can’t be fixed, but 90% of the time it isn’t even remotely cost effective. No offense to anyone who loves these cars, but the gas engines in the 451 chassis smarts are terrible. Like first year of the M271 but only if they were made by drunk high school drop outs on Friday afternoon using left over pot metal from an abandoned AMC factory. To make it cost effective you would usually have to have a hookup on a bunch of used parts and an awesome machinist who can basically work magic.
